Photography as an art form is great, although I’m not that good at getting the perfect photo and I’m usually not at the type of places that I would want photos of anyway. Looking into helium balloon photography seemed too expensive. Pole photography is fairly free, but seems too limited. There’s got to be something better, something that’s fun for me and for my children (it’s always good to incorporate family into your bobbies). The answer I’ve come across isn’t cheap, but it sure would be fun: R/C Airplanes!
Radio controlled airplanes have many advantages over using helium balloons for photography, mainly because they’re just plain fun to use! Using a remote to control the location of the plane and the angle of the photo is something that holding onto a string tied to a balloon just can’t provide. Sure, you can set the angle ahead of time with a helium balloon, but that’s not dynamic enough for me. Helium costs an arm and a leg, but when your photo is over, there’s no way to get the helium recycled back into the tank to use again.
After doing some research, it seems that the Multiplex Easy Start is a great beginners airplane to start with and can be upgraded to handle light-weight cameras. Attaching a camera can be as easy as this or as fancy as this. Or even better: GoProHD + FPV camera at once: View the Video
Here are some links that I dug up that have been of some help:
