You may have a nice looking website, but it doesn’t really matter if people aren’t viewing it! Lets take a quick look at some ways to get traffic to your website.

Marketing a website has many of the same characteristics as marketing a brick-and-mortar store. The main goal is to get people to your business, or in this case, your website. The first step in getting visitors is to tell people you exist. People can’t visit if they don’t know about you!

Letting people know you exist can be as easy as having a website and hoping that people search Google or Yahoo for just the right words that they will somehow find your website. Though not usually that effective, this can sometimes get the job done; but what if you’re ready to take your marketing to the next level?

So as to not bore you, there are many steps one can take to go the extra mile to make sure people know about (and visit) your website. Here’s a quick list of some of them:

  • Word-of-Mouth – tell everyone you meet about you and your website. Leave them with something they can pocket for later (business card perhaps?).
  • PPC (pay-per-click) – Create an advertising budget and pay for people who click on an advertisement in Google or Yahoo. The visitor was searching for your service anyway, so your chances on making a sale are more than cold calling.
  • Social Media – Write blog articles, join Facebook – Essentially you want to put a link to your website in as many places as appropriate to let people know you exist!

While not all of these methods will fit into your business strategy, I hope that I have at least left you with a feeling to get out there and promote your business more than you currently are!
